International Christian School - Caracas was founded by various Christian missionary boards in 1990. Previously missionaries either had private tutors or there children were sent to live in Rubio, Venezuela at Christiansen Academy. They began with a board, four teachers, and twenty students in a rented house in the Santa Monica area. As they outgrew the school, they moved in 1993 to the present location at La Concordia in Colinas de Bello Monte. They also modified the original plan to only have a kindergarten through eighth grade and began an online High School program. By 1995 they hired the first full time director, Dr. Paul Wrobbel. Under the leadership of Dr. Wrobbel the school grew into a Kindergarten through 12th grade fully accredited institution with Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) .
Currently, Nathan Johnson has been serving as the Director since 2004. The school now includes three and four year old Preschool program. In recent years they have constructed a basketball court with a beautiful and refreshing view of Caracas, and last summer they built a new multimedia center.
The most distinguished change came in February 2006 when the school’s parental assembly voted on a motion placed by the school board to change the ownership of the school. The voting members, who were all Mission organizations that founded the school, asked Network of International Christian Schools (NICS) to incorporate their school within their network of twenty schools worldwide. NICS now uses their far reaching network to help recruit teachers as well as provide professional development for the staff and administration of the school.
In March 2007, the school purchased a house next to their basketball court with the vision to open a new Elementary school there in the 2008-2009 school year. The school growth this past year coinciding with the change with NICS promises a very exciting future for ICS - Caracas.
